What is a “she wolf” as referred to in Shakira’s new song?

Kate asked:

I’ve heard the phrase before but never really knew what it meant. I had thought that it was a euphemism for prostitute because of the ancient brothel in Pompeii called “Lupanar,” but the way it’s used in Shakira’s song makes me think that she wouldn’t be [basically] praising prostitution. So, what exactly does is mean to be called a “she wolf?”

  1. auuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

  2. a she wolf, according to shakira, is the woman and man of our times
she says the view society has on thing is opening up a bit

so basically a she wolf is a woman or man that is not afraid to explore themselves, not just sexually

  3. Well, you’re right, she’s not talking about being a prostitute.

Her “character” in the song is bored. The boyfriend doesn’t appreciate her as the fun, sexy female that she is. She wants to be able to express herself, sexually and in other ways. Basically she wants to have some FUN. And if she can’t do that with her boyfriend, she’s going to leave him for someone else who appreciates her (Or, just enjoy being single.)

Anyway, to answer your question, the She Wolf is a fun, sexy woman who knows what she wants and is not afraid to get it.

  4. I’m not sure that this is correct, but my initial conception of the song was that she was an actual female werewolf. The reason why I say this, is because of the line “the moon’s my teacher / and I’m her student” but lines like “I’m starting to feel a little abused / like a coffee machine in an office” makes me think that there’s a love story behind the song. Although the “AAUUUU” howl is peretty convincing of the werewolf theory…
